### Overview

The EPCIS 1.2 – SOM Destroy transaction is an XML-based message used to document the physical destruction of serialized pharmaceutical products. This transaction is compliant with GS1 EPCIS 1.2 standards and provides a secure, auditable record of product disposal to meet DSCSA, DEA, and internal quality control requirements.

With TraceLink’s OPUS Platform and B2N Integrate-Once™ architecture, the SOM Destroy transaction ensures that serialized units removed from the supply chain are accurately recorded as destroyed, supporting full traceability, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation.

### Key Use Cases

- Document the destruction of serialized products flagged by internal investigations or otherwise no longer saleable.
- Ensure compliance with DSCSA, DEA, or SOP-based destruction protocols.
- Remove high-risk or non-saleable products from the traceable supply chain.
- Provide an auditable record of destruction for regulatory inspections.
- Synchronize destruction status across serialization, quality, and compliance systems.
- Prevent future verification or movement of destroyed EPCs.

### Data Elements Included

An EPCIS 1.2 – SOM Destroy transaction includes:

- **Event Type:** ObjectEvent with a business step of “destruction”.
- **EPCs (Electronic Product Codes):** Serialized identifiers (SGTINs) of the destroyed units.
- **Lot and Product Information:** GTIN, lot number, expiration date.
- **Event Time and Time Zone:** When the destruction event occurred.
- **Disposition:** Status such as “destroyed” or “disposed”.
- **Read Point and Business Location:** Where the destruction physically took place.
- **Reason Code:** Explanation for destruction (e.g., “SOM\_FLAGGED”, “EXPIRED”, “QA\_FAILURE”).
- **User or System Identifier (optional):** Who authorized or executed the destruction.
- **Digital Signature (optional):** For regulatory-grade data integrity and non-repudiation.
- **Audit Reference ID (optional):** Internal reference for compliance tracking.

### Benefits of EPCIS 1.2 – SOM Destroy

- Ensures full compliance with internal business SOPs, DSCSA / DEA regulation, and other requirements for product destruction.
- Provides secure, auditable proof that flagged serialized units have been removed from the supply chain.
- Prevents future movement or verification of destroyed EPCs.
- Improves visibility and control over high-risk or non-saleable inventory.
- Supports internal SOPs and quality management systems for product disposition.

### How TraceLink Supports EPCIS 1.2 SOM Destroy

TraceLink’s OPUS Platform, powered by B2N Integrate-Once™, enables secure, compliant, and scalable destruction event reporting by:

- Integrating with serialization, ERP, and quality systems to trigger destruction workflows.
- Capturing EPCIS 1.2-compliant destruction events in real time.
- Distributing destruction records to internal systems and authorized trading partners.
- Providing dashboards and audit trails for destruction status, reasons, and inventory impact.
- Supporting secure data exchange with optional digital signatures for regulatory-grade compliance.
