### Overview

The EPCIS 1.2 – SOM Shipment Event transaction is an XML-based message used to document the shipment of serialized pharmaceutical products. This transaction complies with GS1 EPCIS 1.2 standards and provides detailed information about the shipment, including serialized identifiers, packaging hierarchy, and event metadata.

With TraceLink’s OPUS Platform and B2N Integrate-Once™ architecture, the SOM Shipment Event transaction enables secure, real-time communication of shipment data, triggered by Serialized Operations Manager (SOM), ensuring compliance with DSCSA/global track and trace regulations and enhancing traceability throughout the supply chain.

### Key Use Cases

- Document the shipment of serialized products.
- Provide detailed shipment information to downstream partners, including carriers and distributors.
- Support compliance with DSCSA and other compliance requirements for serialized product tracking.
- Enable real-time visibility into shipment status and location.
- Facilitate the aggregation of serialized units for efficient shipping and handling.
- Improve collaboration between manufacturers, 3PLs, and wholesalers through structured data exchange.

### Data Elements Included

An EPCIS 1.2 – SOM Shipment Event transaction includes:

- **Event Type:** ObjectEvent or AggregationEvent representing the shipment.
- **EPCs (Electronic Product Codes):** Serialized identifiers (SGTINs) for each unit, case, or pallet.
- **Event Time and Time Zone:** Timestamp of when the shipment event occurred.
- **Read Point:** Physical location where the shipment was recorded.
- **Business Location:** GLN of the facility performing the shipment.
- **Disposition:** Status of the product (e.g., “in\_transit”, “available”).
- **Business Transaction References:** PO number, ASN reference, or shipment ID.
- **Carrier Information:** Name and SCAC code of the transportation provider.
- **Digital Signature (optional):** For ensuring data integrity and compliance.
- **Comments or Notes:** Optional fields for additional context or instructions.

### Benefits of EPCIS 1.2 – SOM Shipment Event

- Ensures compliance with DSCSA/global regulations through structured shipment documentation.
- Provides real-time visibility into serialized product movement across the supply chain.
- Supports secure, standards-based communication using EPCIS 1.2 XML schema.
- Improves traceability and audit readiness with detailed shipment records.
- Enhances operational efficiency by automating data exchange with trading partners.

### How TraceLink Supports EPCIS 1.2 – SOM Shipment Event

TraceLink’s OPUS Platform, powered by B2N Integrate-Once™, enables secure and compliant shipment event reporting by:

- Integrating with serialization, ERP, and logistics systems to capture shipment events.
- Transmitting EPCIS 1.2-compliant shipment data to downstream partners and regulatory systems.
- Ensuring data integrity with optional digital signatures and secure transport protocols.
- Providing dashboards and audit trails for shipment status, verification, and compliance tracking.
- Enabling rapid onboarding of trading partners through a single connection to the TraceLink network.
