### Overview

The EDI ANSI X12 830 – Forecast Planning Schedule transaction is used by customers—such as manufacturers, contract manufacturers, wholesalers, or distributors—to communicate forecasted demand and planned delivery schedules to their suppliers or trading partners. Typically sent on a recurring basis (e.g., weekly or monthly), this transaction enables suppliers to align production, procurement, and inventory planning with customer demand visibility.

With TraceLink’s digital supply network, partners across the life sciences supply chain can automate forecast sharing and scheduling to enable proactive demand planning, reduce stockouts and excess inventory, and strengthen supply reliability across complex, multi‑tier networks.

### Key Use Cases

- Communicate rolling demand forecasts for finished goods, APIs, packaging materials, or components.
- Share planned production or delivery schedules to align with manufacturing capacity and logistics planning.
- Enable upstream and downstream supply partners to coordinate production, procurement, and replenishment cycles.
- Reduce forecast errors and minimize manual data entry by integrating demand planning and supply chain systems.
- Support Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) and Integrated Business Planning (IBP) alignment across partners.
- Enhance collaboration between manufacturers, CMOs, and suppliers through shared digital forecast data.

### Data Elements Included

An EDI ANSI X12 830 – Forecast Planning Schedule transaction includes:

- **Forecast Type Code:** Indicates whether the forecast is weekly, monthly, or cumulative.
- **Forecast Horizon Dates:** Defines the start and end dates of the forecast period.
- **Product Identifiers:** Includes GTINs, NDCs, SKUs, or internal part numbers to identify forecasted items.
- **Forecast Quantities:** Specifies the projected demand quantities for each forecast period and product.
- **Schedule Type Qualifier:** Differentiates between planning forecast (for capacity planning) and shipping schedule (for confirmed delivery).
- **Cumulative Quantity:** Represents running totals across forecast periods for long-term planning accuracy.
- **Partner and Location Identifiers:** Identifies ship-from, ship-to, and production locations to align demand with supply sources.
- **Buyer's Reference Data:** Includes customer purchase order number or contract reference for forecast traceability.
- **Planning Time Fence Indicators:** Defines the firm, committed, or flexible forecast periods to enable production planning.
- **Currency and Unit of Measure:** Ensures correct interpretation of quantities and valuation across systems.
- **Date and Time of Forecast Generation:** Records when the forecast was last updated or sent.
