The Customs Events Advisory Details is a standardized EDI transaction that communicates cargo transportation events to customs authorities and government agencies during international trade. Carriers, freight forwarders, logistics providers, and other transportation organizations exchange this transaction to report significant shipment events.

## <a name="Submit"></a>Create and submit customs events advisory details

Perform this task to create and submit new customs events advisory details. Additionally, customs carrier can begin work on a customs events advisory details and save it for completion at a later time.

2. Select My Networks in the header.
3. Select a \[MPL Network\] from the Select your Network drop-down in the header.
4. Select a Partner or Location (e.g. your entire company or a Link to a specific Partner or internal location) in the header.
5. Select the Go button.
6. Select Transportation - Customs Carrier  from the left menu.![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/global_images/note_tip_24x24.png) Partners must have the correct [roles](https://www.tracelink.com/resources/tracelink-university/configure-tracelink-multienterprise-information-network-tower) assigned if using the Owner's instance of Multienterprise Information Network Tower.
7. Select Customs Events Advisory Details.
8. Select the New button.
9. On the New Customs Events Advisory Detail screen, fill in the following fields:
    1. Customs Events Advisory Details Number field – The unique identifier for the customs events advisory detail.
    2. Customs Events Advisory Details Date field – The date when the transaction set has been created or being sent.
10. Select the Save button.
    
    The screen refreshes with the saved customs events advisory details in the draft state and with the required sections populated.
11. Select the Edit button.
12. In the Transaction Information section, select Submitted from the Process Status drop drown.
13. In the Customs Events Advisory Details Information section fill in the following fields:  
    
    1. Customs Status Information Number field – The unique identifier for the customs events advisory detail.   
        This field auto populates the value entered New Customs Events Advisory Detail screen.
    2. Customs Status Information Date field – The date when the transaction set has been created or being sent.  
        This field auto populates the value entered New Customs Events Advisory Detail screen.
    3. Carrier Code field – The standard carrier identification code, typically SCAC.
    4. Transport Method drop-down – The type of transportation method used.
    5. Country field – The two-letter country code with country name for this location.
    6. Vessel Identifier field – The unique code or number assigned to a vessel for identification purposes.
    7. Vessel Name field – The official name of the vessel as registered with maritime authorities.
    8. Voyage Identifier field – The code assigned to a specific vessel journey that transports goods between ports.
    9. Ocean Rail Manifest field – A document that provides detailed information about containers and shipments loaded onto a train as part of an ocean import or export movement.
    10. Truck Manifest field – A document that identifies the truck, driver, route, and all shipments being transported.
    11. Lading Quantity field – The quantity of product at delivery.
    12. Shipment Manifest Type Code field – A document that identifies the truck, driver, route, and all shipments being transported.
    13. Vessel Code Type drop-down – The type of identifier used to represent the vessel.
    14. Is Transmission In Bond? switch – Indicates whether the shipment is being transported under a customs bond without payment of duties until it reaches the designated customs location.
    15. Transaction Context Code field – A code that identifies the business or operational context in which the transaction is processed.
    16. Action drop-down – A brief description stating the purpose of the transaction.
14. In the Reference Transactions section, select the Add![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/tl-add.png)icon:
    1. In the New Reference Transaction  panel, fill in the following fields under Reference Transaction Information section:
        1. Transaction Type drop-down – The type of transaction.
        2. Transaction Value type-ahead field – The unique identifier of the transaction.  
            If the value does not match the available options, the value must be entered manually.
        3. Transaction Date field - The transaction date.
    2. Select Apply.The new reference transaction line item is added to the transaction reference table.
15. In the Custom Ports Or Terminal Information section and select the Add![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/tl-add.png)icon.
    1. In the New Custom Ports Or Terminal Information panel, fill in the following fields under Custom Ports Or Terminal Information section:
        1. Port Or Terminal Function Code drop-down – The code defining the role of the port or terminal in shipment.
        2. Location Identifier field – A unique identifier assigned to a location involved in the transportation process.
        3. Estimated Arrival Date field - The planned or estimated date of arrival at the destination port.
        4. Lading Quantity field - The quantity of product at delivery.
        5. Processing Information Code drop-down - A code that indicates how the transaction should be processed.
        6. Shipment Event Type drop-down - The code to specify type of the ocean shipment event.
    2. Select Apply.The new custom ports or terminal information line item is added to the table.
16. In the Cargo Manifest Information section and select the Add![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/tl-add.png)icon and fill in the following fields:
    1. Voyage Identifier field – The code assigned to a specific vessel journey that transports goods between ports.
    2. Port Or Terminal Function Code drop-down – The code defining the role of the port or terminal in shipment.
    3. Carrier Port Name field - The name of the port associated with the carrier for the transportation of the shipment.
    4. Manifest Event Date field - The date on which the event associated with the transportation manifest occurred.
    5. Space Booking Identifier field - A unique identifier that identifies a cargo space reservation associated with a transportation transaction.
    6. Carrier Code field - The standard carrier identification code, typically SCAC.
    7. Previous Carrier Code field - The code that identifies the previous carrier for the shipment.
    8. Vessel Name field - The official name of the vessel as registered with maritime authorities.
    9. Pier Identifier field - The designated pier or dock location at the port where the shipment is to be delivered or received.
    10. Pier Name field - The name of the pier where a vessel is scheduled to berth or where cargo is loaded or unloaded.
    11. Terminal Name field - The official name of the terminal where the shipment is handled.
    12. State field – The state or region for this location.
    13. Country Code drop-down – The ship or vessel registered country code.
    14. Vessel Agent Identifier field - A unique identifier assigned to the agent representing the vessel at a port.
    15. Transport Method drop-down – The type of transportation method used.
17. In the Cargo Equipment Information section and select the Add![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/tl-add.png)icon and fill in the following fields:
    1. Equipment Type drop-down – The type of equipment used in delivery.
    2. Equipment Prefix field – A unique set of letters that identifies the owner or operator of shipping equipment.
    3. Equipment Identifier field - A unique alphanumeric code assigned to a specific piece of transport equipment.
    4. Carrier Code field - The standard carrier identification code, typically SCAC.
    5. Equipment Length field - Specifies the length of the transportation equipment.
    6. Equipment Height field - Specifies the height of the transportation equipment.
    7. Equipment Width field - Specifies the width of the transportation equipment.
    8. Load Status drop-down - Indicates the current loading condition of the shipment or transport vehicle.
    9. Transport Service Type drop-down - The numeric amount that represents the volume based on the specified volume type.
18. In the  Carrier and Customs Authority section, fill in the following fields under Carrier group:
    1. Company type-ahead field – The name of the company receiving the customs events advisory detail. This company is customer of goods. This field pulls from the Owner's company and location master data.The remaining Carrier fields are auto populated with the values from the company or location's master data entry. If the name of the company is not present in the Owners master data, the company name must be entered manually.
    2. Address 1 field – The address of the particular location.
    3. Address 2 field – Any additional address information.
    4. Country drop-down – The two-letter country code with country name for this location.
    5. State field – The state or region for this location.
    6. City field – The city for this location.
    7. Postal Code field – The postal code for this location's main address.
    8. Contact Telephone Number field – The company or location's phone number.
    9. Contact Fax Number field – The company or location's fax number
    10. Party ID Type drop-down – The identifier type used for this company or location. For more information, see Identifier and Item Code Types.
    11. Party ID Value field – The value associated with the identifier type.
19. In the  Carrier and Customs Authority section, fill in the following fields under Customs Authority group:
    1. Company type-ahead field – The name of the company sending the customs events advisory detail. This company is customer of goods. This field pulls from the Owner's company and location master data.The remaining Carrier fields are auto populated with the values from the company or location's master data entry. If the name of the company is not present in the Owners master data, the company name must be entered manually.
    2. Address 1 field – The address of the particular location.
    3. Address 2 field – Any additional address information.
    4. Country drop-down – The two-letter country code with country name for this location.
    5. State field – The state or region for this location.
    6. City field – The city for this location.
    7. Postal Code field – The postal code for this location's main address.
    8. Contact Telephone Number field – The company or location's phone number.
    9. Contact Fax Number field – The company or location's fax number
    10. Contact Type drop-down – The contact role associated with the customs events advisory detail.
    11. Contact Name field – The full name of the contact person responsible for matters related to the customs events advisory detail.
    12. Contact Phone field – The telephone number of the contact person for communication regarding order processing, fulfillment or payment coordination.
    13. Contact Email field – The email address of the contact person for electronic communication related to the customs events advisory detail.
    14. Party ID Type drop-down – The identifier type used for this company or location. For more information, see Identifier and Item Code Types.
    15. Party ID Value field – The value associated with the identifier type.
20. In the Item Details section:
    1. Select the Add![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/tl-add.png)icon.
    2. In the New Line Item panel, fill in the following fields under Line Item Information section:
        1. Customs Notification Type drop-down – The type of notification issued by customs regarding the status or processing of a shipment.
        2. Description field –
        3. Customs Reference Identifier field – A unique identifier that identifies the customs transaction or filing.
        4. Customs Entry Date field – The date on which a shipment is officially entered with customs for processing and clearance.
        5. Port Of Entry field – The designated port where a shipment first enters a country and is presented to customs for inspection and clearance.
        6. Carrier Code Bill Of Lading field – The code that identifies the carrier responsible for transporting the shipment, as specified on the Bill of Lading.
        7. Customs Entry Time field - The time at which a shipment is officially entered with customs for processing and clearance.
        8. Seal Number field - The unique identifier assigned to the security seal applied to a container, trailer, or other transportation equipment.
        9. Internal Revenue Reference Identifier field - A unique identifier assigned to a tax- or revenue-related record by the applicable internal revenue authority.
        10. Carrier Code Next In Bond field - The code that identifies the next carrier responsible for transporting an in-bond shipment.
        11. City field – The city for this location.
        12. State field – The state or region for this location.
        13. Is Intermediate Port switch - Indicates whether the port is an intermediate stop between the shipment's origin and final destination.
        14. Transaction Reference Type drop-down - The type of referenced transaction.
        15. Transaction Reference Value field - The value of the referenced transaction.
        16. Vessel Name field - The official name of the vessel as registered with maritime authorities.
        17. Transport Method drop-down – The type of transportation method used.
        18. FIRMS System Location Identifier field - A unique identifier assigned to a facility in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Facilities Information and Resources Management System (FIRMS).
        19. Date Border Crossed field - The date on which the shipment crossed an international border during transit.
        20. Time Border Crossed field - The time at which the shipment crossed an international border during transit.
    3. Select Apply.The new line item is added.
    4. Select a line row and then select the branch ![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/Branch_1.png) icon and fill in the following fields under Carrier Exporter Seal Number Replacement Information section:
        1. Seal Number field – The unique identifier assigned to the security seal applied to a container, trailer, or other transportation equipment.
        2. Replacement Seal Number field – The unique identifier assigned to the new security seal that replaces the original seal on the transportation equipment or shipment.
        3. Replacement Date field – The date on which the original security seal was replaced with a new seal.
        4. Location On Equipment drop-down – The specific location on the transportation equipment where an item, component, or security seal is positioned.
        5. Seal Applied Entity Type drop-down – The type of entity that applied the security seal to the transportation equipment or shipment.
        6. Name field – Free form name identifying an organizational entity, a physical location, property or an individual related to the seal
        7. Description field – A brief description of carrier exporter seal number.
    5. Select Apply.  
        The carrier exporter seal number replacement line item is added.
    6. Select the line item row drop down to view the carrier exporter seal number replacement in a table.
21. In the Vessel Movement Information section and select the Add![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/tl-add.png)icon and fill in the following fields:
    1. Customs Notification Type drop-down – The type of notification issued by customs regarding the status or processing of a shipment.
    2. Customs Reference Identifier field – A unique identifier that identifies the customs transaction or filing.
    3. Port Of Entry field - The designated port where a shipment first enters a country and is presented to customs for inspection and clearance.
    4. Vessel Identifier field - The unique code or number assigned to a vessel for identification purposes.
    5. Vessel Name field - The official name of the vessel as registered with maritime authorities.
    6. Country Code drop-down - The two-letter country code with country name for this location.
    7. Voyage Identifier field - The code assigned to a specific vessel journey that transports goods between ports.
    8. Carrier Code field - The standard carrier identification code, typically SCAC.
    9. Vessel Requirement Code drop-down - A code that specifies a requirement or condition applicable to the vessel for transporting a shipment.
    10. Vessel Type drop-down - The classification of the vessel used to transport the shipment.
    11. Vessel Code Type drop-down - The type of code used to identify the vessel transporting the shipment.
    12. Transport Method drop-down – The type of transportation method used.
    13. Vessel Registered Location Identifier field - A unique identifier for the location where the vessel is officially registered.
    14. Registered Vessel Identifier field - A unique identifier assigned to a vessel by its registration authority.
    15. Weight Value field - The numeric value representing the weight of a shipment, package, container, or transportation equipment.
    16. Weight Unit Type drop-down - The unit type of weight value at delivery.
    17. Vessel Routing Name field - The name of the vessel route or service used to transport the shipment.
    18. Vessel Dimensions field - The physical measurements of the vessel, such as its length, width (beam), height, or draft.
    19. Unit of Measure drop-down – The unit in which the line item is measured.
    20. Vessel Quantity field - The number of vessels associated with the transportation transaction.
22. In the Shipment Measurements section:
    1. Select the Add![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/tl-add.png)icon.
    2. In the New Shipment Measurement Detail panel, fill in the following fields under Shipment Measurement Detail section:

    4. Select a shipment measurement detail row and then select the branch ![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/Branch_1.png) icon and fill in the following fields under Sub Line Shipment Measurement Detail Information section:
        1. Measurement Category drop-down – The type of measurement associated with a transportation value, such as weight, volume, length, height, width, or quantity.
        2. Measurement Type drop-down – The code identifying a measurement type for a measurement value.
        3. Measurement Value field – The value of the measurement.
        4. Unit of Measure drop-down – The unit in which the line item is measured.
    5. Select Apply.  
        The sub line shipment measurement detail Information line item is added.
    6. Select the shipment measurement detail row drop down to view the sub line shipment measurement detail in a table.
23. In the Notes section, select the Add![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/tl-add.png)icon to enter any additional comments or instructions.
24. To submit the customs events advisory details:![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/global_images/note_tip_24x24.png)To save the customs events advisory details in a Draft state and finish it later, ensure the Move To button is not selected and then select the Save button in the draft state. 
    
    
    1. Select the Move To button at the top of the screen.
        
        The submit status indicator circle is filled in with green to indicate the desired action upon selecting save.
    2. Select the Save button.
        
        The customs events advisory details is submitted.

- Select the Delete![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/tl-subtract.png)icon, to remove an individual line item, where available.
- Select the branch ![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/Branch_1.png) icon, to add a new line item in the inserted table, where available.

8. Select the Filter button to find the customs events advisory detail in Draft state.
9. Select the Customs Events Advisory Details Number link in the results table.
10. Select the Edit button.
11. In the Transaction Information section, select Submitted from the Process Status drop drown.
12. Confirm the customs events advisory detail details and select the Edit ![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/lc-edit_line.png) icon associated with that line item to modify the fields if required.
13. Select the Move To button at the top of the screen.
    
    The submit status indicator circle is filled in with green to indicate the desired action upon selecting save.
14. Select the Save button.
    
    The customs events advisory details is submitted.
 
#### Tips

- Select the customs events advisory detail number row and then select the Delete ![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/delete.png) icon on the top of the Search Customs Events Advisory Details screen, to delete the customs events advisory detail in draft state.

## Create new discussions and add comments to existing discussions

Owner and Partner can start discussions or add comments directly from a subtype view page. This allows authorized users from owner and partner companies to collaborate in the context of the transaction they are viewing.

1. Select the Main Menu ![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/global_images/ensemble/main_menu.png) icon.
2. Select My Networks in the header.
3. Select a \[MPL Network\] from the Select your Network drop-down in the header.
4. Select a Partner or Location (e.g. your entire company or a Link to a specific Partner or internal location) in the header.
5. Select the Go button.
6. Navigate to the subtype record you want to discuss.
7. Open the subtype record to display its view page.
8. Select the Add Discussion button.  
    The new discussion page opens in a new tab.
9. Start the discussion using one of the following options:
    
    
    1. In the Transaction section, select the transaction ID link to review and update the related transaction automatically referenced from the subtype record.
    2. Select the New button to initiate a new discussion for the transaction, if required.   
        This creates a new, independent discussion thread for the transaction. The new discussion will not be a continuation of any existing discussion associated with the subtype record, and prior discussion details from the subtype record will not automatically carry forward into the new thread.
10. Enter the discussion details. For detailed field descriptions, see Create and Submit a Discussion.
11. Select the Save button.  
    The new discussion is now associated with the transaction from the originating subtype view page.

1. Select the Main Menu ![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/global_images/ensemble/main_menu.png) icon.
2. Select My Networks in the header.
3. Select a \[MPL Network\] from the Select your Network drop-down in the header.
4. Select a Partner or Location (e.g. your entire company or a Link to a specific Partner or internal location) in the header.
5. Select the Go button.
6. Navigate to the subtype record related to the discussion you want to comment on.
7. Open the subtype record to display its view page.
8. Select the Add Comment button.  
    The Discussion Search page opens in a new tab within the context of the selected transaction.
9. Find the discussion to update using one of the following options.
    
    
    1. Review and update the discussions already associated with the transaction.
    2. Select the Filter button, enter the search criteria, and apply the filter. From the filtered results, select the discussion to review and update. For detailed field descriptions, see Search and View All Discussions.
    3. If the existing discussion is not appropriate, select the New button to start a new discussion for the associated transaction. For detailed field descriptions, see Create and Submit a Discussion.
10. Select the discussion to update.
11. Enter comment.
12. Select the Save button.  
    The comment is added to the selected discussion and remains associated with the related transaction.
 
 

 

## <a name="Search"></a>Search and view customs events advisory detail

Viewing the details of a customs events advisory detail enable shippers and carriers to quickly access order information (e.g. the quantity for each line item in an order) in TraceLink without having to search through the actual B2B message.

1. Select the Main Menu ![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/global_images/ensemble/main_menu.png) icon.
2. Select My Networks in the header.
3. Select a \[MPL Network\] from the Select your Network drop-down in the header.
4. Select a Partner or Location (e.g. your entire company or a Link to a specific Partner or internal location) in the header.
5. Select the Go button.
6. Select Transportation - Customs or Transportation - Customs Carrier from the left menu.

7. Select Customs Events Advisory Details.
8. Select the Filter button.
9. Fill in one or more of the following fields to filter the results:
    1. Multi Field Search field - Searches across multiple indexed fields using a single keyword, including Text, Text Area, Email, URL, and Lookup fields.
    2. Customs Status Information Number field – The unique identifier for the customs events advisory detail.
    3. Customs Status Information Date field – The date when the transaction set has been created or being sent.
10. State drop-down – The state of the customs events advisory details:
    
    
    - Draft – The transaction is in the draft state.
    - Submit – The transaction has been created.
    - Processing – The application is getting ready to handle incoming transactions by doing some initial tasks, such as copying the files it receives.
    - Processed – The application changes the standard information into a format that is easy to use and specific to your transaction.
    - Preparing to Send – The application is getting ready to send out a transaction and is doing some initial tasks, like copying the necessary information for the process.
    - Sending –The application sends out business transactions to the buyer or supplier.
    - Sent – The transaction is successfully completed and shared with the receiving party.
11. Customs Authority type-ahead – Displays only if the menu item is Sent Customs Events Advisory Details in Transportation - Customs Carrier. The name of the company the customs events advisory detail was sent to.  
    If the name of the company is not present in the Owners master data then the company's name must be entered manually.
12. Carrier type-ahead – Displays only if the menu item is Received Customs Events Advisory Details in Transportation - Customs. The name of the company the customs events advisory detail was received from.  
    If the name of the company is not present in the Owner's master data then the company's name must be entered manually.
13. Last Modified drop-down – The period of time in which the customs events advisory details was last updated:
    - Today – The transaction was modified within the last few hours.
    - Yesterday – The transaction was updated within the past 24 hours.
    - Last Week – The transaction was modified in the last 7 days.
    - Last Month – The transaction was modified in the last 30 days.
    - Last 3 Months – The transaction was modified in the last 90 days.
    - Last 6 Months – The transaction was modified in the last 180 days.
    - Custom Range – Select a specific period of time that the transaction was modified in from the calendar.

3. Select Apply.
    
    A list of customs events advisory detailss displays based on the filter results.
4. Select the link for the customs events advisory details from the results table.
    
    The View Customs Events Advisory Details screen displays.
5. To view all fields for each line item, select the View ![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/local_images/lc-view_line.png) icon on the Customs Events Advisory Details Details screen.
 

 

## <a name="error"></a>Reprocess and Resubmit customs events advisory details

Use the following procedure to resolve any error messages encountered while submitting a customs events advisory detail.

1. Select the Main Menu ![](/sites/default/files/tech_comms/mpl/Content/Resources/Images/global_images/ensemble/main_menu.png) icon.
2. Select My Networks in the header.
3. Select a \[MPL Network\] from the Select your Network drop-down in the header.
4. Select a Partner or Location (e.g. your entire company or a Link to a specific Partner or internal location) in the header.
5. Select the Go button.
6. 7. Select Customs Events Advisory Details.
8. Select the Filter button to find the customs status information in Processing, Processed, Preparing to Send, or Sending state.
9. Select the Customs Status Information Number link in the results table.
10. View the following fields for error in the Transaction Information section: 
    - Process Status - Displays the status of the submitted transaction.
    - Last Transaction Error - Displays the error message.
11. Select the Edit button..
12. In the Transaction Information section, select Submitted from the Process Status drop drown.
13. Select the Save button.  
    The customs status information request is moved from Processing state to Sending state indicating that the customs status information is submitted successfully.

8. Select a Customs Events Advisory Details Number in Sent state.
9. Select the Edit button.

10. Select the Move To button at the top of the screen.
    
    The submit status indicator circle is filled in with green to indicate the desired action upon selecting save.
11. Select the Save button.
    
    The customs events advisory details is submitted.
 
The statues of the customs events advisory details moves to Sent state.
